My father worked for Penn State University so I grew up fly fishing in north central Pennsylvania and as a young boy and teenage fished most of the famous drainages in Pennsylvania. I learned to fly fish, not from classes (they were nonexistent in the early 1960s), but from older gentlemen who lived throughout the area.

I married in the late 1970s and made the move to western New York in 1981 when my first daughter was born. In the spring of 1984 I caught my first steelhead in 18 mile creek outside of Hamburg, New York. In 1987 I moved to central New York and in February of 1988 caught my first Salmon River steelhead. With the encouragement of my fishing partner Gary Edwards, the then owner of the Wild River Inn, I began guiding for his lodge in fall of 1988 and in 1994 started Upland Fishing and Hunting Guide Service and have run a full time guide service till now.

Most people who know me, know me as a fly fisherman, but I like most any kind of fishing. I like to ice fish and in the last three years have began to fish bass tournaments on the national level as a co-angler, from the back of the boat. I have had the privilege of being paired with some great professional bass anglers, Mike Iaconnelli, Charlie Hartley, Vic Vatalaro, Kevin Snider, to name a few. These guys are not only great anglers but also great people to spend the day fishing with. |

There are things in most peoples lives that make their heart ‘beat’, for me, the Salmon River is one of them. Every time I see it, walk it’s banks or slide my drift boat down it’s course, my heart ‘beats’. I love this river and would like to share this experience and my knowledge of this river with you. |
