Spring Turkey Hunting, New York State

turkey #1 spring 2013 005turkey #1 spring 2013 005Spring turkey hunting here in the Salmon River area is very good.  Despite often brutal winters with heavy snow fall, the recruitment of young of the year is excellent.  The number of 2 year old gobblers is high from year to year.

My guide service can offer you hunting on private land as well as an abundance of state land through out the Tug Hill region that receives minimal pressure.  This makes for some of our best hunting days later in the season.

Spring turkey season runs from the 1st of May every year to the last day of the month.  You can harvest two birds per season, however, they may not be taken on the same day.  Shooting time is 1/2 hour before sunrise till noon.  You can purchase a small game license and the required turkey tags locally or online.

Birds can be taken with shotgun or bow.  The hunt can be combined with a guided fishing trip in the afternoon or evening ( if you want to catch a nap).  Fishing can be for steelhead, northern pike or local stream trout depending on the time of the month.

Rates for the hunt is $175.00 per person for the day.  If you chose to ‘cast and blast’ the rate is $300.00 per person/ per day.
